| Functions |
The functions required to be accomplished under Government of Nepal Rules, by the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology are concerned with the following matters:
- Formulation, implementation, Monitoring & Evaluation of policies, plans and
programs pertaining to environment, science and technology.
- Study, research, survey, training and national as well as international seminars and conferences on environment.
- Liaison and coordination with national and international organizations pertaining to environment.
- Pollution control, environmental conservation and balance.
- Publication and dissemination, among others, relating to environment.
- Regular and periodic evaluation and review of environment programmes implemented by governmental and non-governmental organizations.
- Development of human resources pertaining to environment.
- Programmes concerning development and expansion of science and technology.
- Exploration and research of the progress made in the field of science.
- Exploration and analysis of the achievements made in the field of technology.
- Promotion of alternative energy.
- Liaison and coordination with universities with regard to science and technology.
- Production, supply and management of goods related to science and technology.
- Collection and survey of data on more advanced technology.
- National, regional and international conference, seminar and symposium on science and technology.
- Bilateral and multilateral agreements and memorandum of understanding on science and technology.
- Liaison and coordination with international organizations concerning science and technology.
- Nepal Academy of Science and Technology.
- Science and Technology Council.
- National Forensic Laboratory.
- Study, research and forecasting on hydrology and meteorology.
- Development and expansion of information technology.
- Planetarium, observatory and science museum.
The roles of the Ministry are, in particular, to be promoter, facilitator and regulator.
